Frostbite Series 2017 “…only the brave…!”
This is now a classic FERMO annual 3 event series with prizes for the best male and female on each course based on mins/km; best two results to count. The terrain chosen is complex with few if any paths and courses are planned for the upper end of the technical standard. Don’t let the shortness of the courses fool you! It is a ‘barebones’ type of event where competitors are expected to be experienced orienteers and who come with all necessary clothing (for very cold/wet winter conditions) and equipment including a plastic bag (A4) for map cover (plain paper and printed on ink-jet). Please ring 028 66348937 or email firstname.lastname@example.org at least 24 hrs in advance to book a map.
Entry fees £5 for all competitors. Registration between 9.15 – 9.45. Starts between 9.30-10.00. Courses close 11.30 (so as everyone can have Sunday Lunch!)

F’bite 17.1 – 8/01/17

- Lt Green 2.8km 135m
Particularly if frosty approach from the East following signs for Marble Arch Caves then continue past for approx. 4km on the Marlbank Loop Road to Registration at laybys at the start of the zigzags on the West end of the loop. Alternatively follow Florencecourt – Blacklion road past Gortatole OEC and 1km beyond take a left fork; then up the zigzags.
Steep limestone terrain with contour detail, depressions and many rock features. The running varies from short close cropped grassland, rough and often marshy heather bog all interspersed with areas of limestone pavement. A number of fences on top of drystone walls will need to be crossed; care is required; please report any damage. The area is exposed so in adverse conditions (remember the time of year!) cags and whistles will be compulsory.
